The National Expressway project of Lhasa-Shigatse Airport section is 167 kilometers long and has been completed and opened to traffic, marking the opening of the entire High-grade expressway from Lhasa to Shigatse. The driving distance between the two cities is shortened to about 3 hours compared with the old National Road G318, and the total mileage of High-grade superhighway in Tibet has reached 1196 kilometers.

According to reports, the High-grade superhighway from Lhasa to Shigatse has a total length of 245 kilometers, which is composed of the special expressway from Lhasa to Gongga Airport, the first-class highway from Shigatse Airport to Shigatse, and other sections. The Lhasa-Shigatse Airport section, which is open to traffic this time, is an expressway, one of the key projects of Tibet 's highway transportation during the "13th Five Year Plan", with two-way four lane roads.


During the construction process, the construction unit vigorously promoted scientific, standardized and digital management, vigorously applied advanced technology, equipment and technology, carried out scientific research projects such as Research on Key Technologies for Construction of Weatherproof I-beam Cast in situ Deck Composite Girder Bridges in Tibet, and timely transformed and applied the research results, effectively ensuring the project progress, quality and other requirements.


It is reported that the connection of the whole high-grade highway from Lhasa to Shigatse has greatly improved the construction level of infrastructure the in high altitude and cold regions in Tibet, optimized and improved the highway networks in Tibet and the country, promoted the further formation of the comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network of "five cities and three hours economic circle" centered in Lhasa, and made important contributions to regional economic development. The technology and construction method used in this highway have an important reference value to all the constructors of infrastructure, not only of China, but all over the world.
